Innovative technologies in medical education – introduction of the PTE 3D Printing and Visualization Center

2025-12-14

The 3D Printing and Visualization Center at the University of Pécs presented solutions shaping the future of healthcare education at the fourth event in the series entitled "The Future is Happening Now" on December 9. During the program, the center's researchers and developers demonstrated in several areas how digital technologies and practice-oriented medical training are connected.

The center's work is based on more than ten years of professional experience, reinforced by collaborations within and beyond the university. In addition to prototype development, the goal is to create services that will be useful in the long term in education, research, and practical applications.

One of the key areas of development is the medical application of 3D printing. This technology enables the production of patient-specific models and tools that support both preparation and practical training. Related to this is research into 4D printing, which examines the properties of materials that change over time.

In addition, we place great emphasis on the development of virtual reality-based educational solutions. VR simulations provide a safe yet realistic environment for medical students, enabling repeatable, individual learning processes. We are currently working on resuscitation and laparoscopic simulation systems, among other things.

The use of artificial intelligence further expands the educational toolkit: AI-based systems provide objective feedback by analyzing simulation exercises, promoting more effective learning.
